The Auxiliary of North Eastern Community Hospital and Nursing Home was established in 1982 to fundraise to help with the establishment of the Hospital and Nursing Home.

The Auxiliary consists of an Executive group which oversees the aims of the Auxiliary to fundraise for the Hospital and Nursing Home. They do this by maintaining the kiosk, which is voluntarily manned 7 days a week. This provides a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for people entering the Hospital and Nursing Home, either as patients, residents or visitors. Volunteers are always welcome.

The Auxiliary Executive holds monthly Monday evening meetings to which interested parties are welcome to attend.

Volunteers also assist with escorting patients for admission and with arranging and keeping flowers fresh for patients.

Kiosk

All proceeds from the kiosk go towards upgrading and equipment for the hospital and nursing home. The kiosk sells a variety of new baby gift baskets and a selection of newborn clothes, limited toiletries, magazines, cards, gift wrap, balloons and refreshments. Also available upon request are Cuddle Pod Slings, available from newborn to toddlers, attached is a brochure of the types of Cuddle Pod Slings available.

Events

The Auxiliary arranges events such as fashion parades, quiz nights, theatre evenings, Chinese banquets, lamington and slice drives etc.

Donating directly to the North Eastern Community Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliary is the most effective way to show your support to the Hospital and Nursing Home. Donations in excess of $2.00 are fully tax deductible. We recognise major gifts / donations by naming of equipment, room or other items within the hospital and nursing home or by recognition on a notice board.

We offer great opportunities for volunteers at North Eastern Community Hospital and Nursing Home. Volunteering in the Hospital or Nursing Home gives you the opportunity to meet new people, enjoy social interaction, learn new skills or use current skills, help and support others in their time of need.

Roles of volunteers

We have various roles for volunteers throughout the Hospital and Nursing Home, they include:

• Kiosk – serving customers who purchase various items such as refreshments or gifts, etc
• Clerical Assistance – collating patient charts, along with other various duties
• Nursing Home – taking residents on outings, helping with crafts/activities, etc

North Eastern Community Hospital and Nursing Home have a large team of volunteers who provide wonderful support, comfort and assistance to patients and residents.

What is required by our volunteers?

• A donation of your time and enthusiasm on an ongoing or casual basis to assist our patients, residents, visitors and staff.
• To undergo a recruitment process and provide two character referees.
• A police clearance certificate
• During the recruitment process, we will discuss your availability, preferred role and current volunteer vacancies.

• Kiosk – serving customers who purchase various items such as refreshments or gifts, etc
• Nursing Home - taking residents on outings, helping with crafts/activities, etc
• Auxiliary Committee - members for the Auxiliary Committee, meetings held 3rd Monday of each month at 8pm.
