Although our “HOSPITAL” appears
as one large complex, there are in fact two specialty areas,
THE NORTH EASTERN COMMUNITY HOSPITAL INC And THE NORTH EASTERN
COMMUNITY NURSING HOME INC.
Each entity has its own Board
of Management although management of the Nursing Home has
been vested by agreement with the Hospital Board.
Both the
North Eastern Community Hospital and the North Eastern
Community Nursing Home were officially opened on
the 16th September 1973. They were built on land
donated by the Campbelltown and Payneham Councils after several years of
negotiations and hard work by a dedicated group of people
interested in the local community.
Originally, the Hospital
started with forty three (43) general, medical, surgical
and maternity beds and fifty-six (56) nursing home beds.
Almost
immediately
the need for additional nursing home beds became apparent and an extension
of the
existing wards was necessary. Further additions have been made over the
years as the complex became busier bringing the totals now
to 60 Acute Hospital
Beds and 68 Nursing Home beds.
Today, our modern 68 bed hospital includes
an 8 Day Beds and Private Room accommodation. NECH has
2 Operating Theatres, Gastroenterology Procedure
Room and specialises
in General Surgery, Medical, Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, Laparoscopic Surgery,
Gynaecology and Plastics. The complex also houses Consulting
Rooms for visiting specialists, Pathology, Radiology and
Podiatry Services.
In
July 1985, the North Eastern Community Hospital and the North Eastern
Community Nursing Home were first awarded full Accreditation
by the Australian
Council
on Hospital Standards in recognition of high standards of patient care
and services. This is professional and national recognition awarded to
health
care facilities
that meet defined standards. The complex has been fully accredited since
that time and maintains a philosophy of Quality care and Services in
all areas.
All staff are expected to participate in the Quality Improvement Programme
to ensure
present standards are maintained.
