He has since been working at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He is the co-author of the internationally renowned Churchill’s Pocketbook of Surgery, about to be released in its 5th edition, three book chapters and of many peer-reviewed research papers. He enjoys training Plastic Surgical Registrars and medical trainees and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer for Adelaide University. He is an examiner of junior surgeons for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and the Director of Training for the surgical Resident Medical Officers at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Dr. Wagstaff believes that responsible surgical practice should be open, unhurried, patient-centred, with minimised risk, and appropriate to need – offering the right treatment for the right patient at the right time. If he feels he is not best placed to offer a patient the most appropriate management for their concern, he would be happy to refer them to a colleague with a specialist interest in that area.
