on the First Floor which can be accessed from the car park.
After hours, admittance to North Eastern Community Hospital
is through the main entrance off Heading Street.

hospital and nursing home. Some parking is available in
the streets surrounding the hospital but we do ask you
to be considerate of our neighbours.
Postnatal
Care – Helping You Care for your Baby
During your stay you will be guided by our midwives in
baby bathing, dressing and settling techniques. Midwives
will also assist and support you in establishing the feeding
method of your choice for your baby
Postnatal education sessions are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
for your benefit.
There is also a white folder in your room entitle “Mum and Dad please
read me” with valuable information for both you and your partner.
Valuables
Although the hospital has facilities to lock items away,
we encourage you to leave anything of value at home. NECH
is unable to accept responsibility for the loss of valuables
or money.
Visitors
North Eastern Community Hospital welcomes visitors to
the hospital and recognises their importance to our patients.
However, to facilitate rest periods, individual wards have
specified times during which visiting is not encouraged.
These hours are as follows;
Maternity Ward Level 2 Husbands/Partners unrestricted
2.00 pm – 3.30 pm Rest Period 6.30 pm – 8.00 pm
Visiting hours outside of these hours is at the discretion
of the registered nurse caring for you. It would be appreciated
if:
• Children who are visiting are closely supervised
and not permitted to wander freely around the hospital
• Noise be kept to a minimum
• Visitors and children suffering from colds, flu and other contagious
ailments should consider waiting until recovery before visiting the hospital.
In the maternity unit we encourage our new mothers to
get as much rest as possible and to facilitate this we
ask visitors (excluding husbands and siblings) if possible
to only visit in visiting hours. This allows our mothers
to spend time with their baby and their husbands/partners,
to be seen by their doctor, to attend education sessions
on caring for their baby and most importantly to rest.
Fees and Charges
North Eastern Community Hospital has negotiated with major
Health Funds to ensure hospital charges are paid for by
the relevant fund EXCEPT where you have made a particular
personal choice in your level of cover e.g. as in “Excess” payments.
Please ensure that you contact your Medical Fund PRIOR
to your admission so that you are fully aware of any “Excess” payments
you will be required to pay. It is also important to check
with regards to family cover in case baby requires admission
to the level 2 nursery as well as ambulance cover.
All Doctor’s fees and diagnostic services (e.g.
x-ray and pathology) will be billed separately. Any amount
outstanding such as an excess or co-payment, is payable
on admission. Please contact your health fund in order
to confirm the level of your private health insurance cover.
You may also receive separate accounts for the following
areas:
• Pharmacy (Non admission related Drugs)
• Pathology
• Radiology
• Surgeon
• Assistant surgeon and anaesthetist
• Paediatrician
For uninsured maternity patients, we do have a lay-by
system and part payments can be made at regularly intervals
prior to admission. You will be required to pay the remainder
of your fees on discharge. For your convenience, we accept
cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments (excluding Diners
and AMEX). If you have any queries please do not hesitate
to ring - 08 83377200 (8.00 am – 8.00 pm)
It is therefore necessary to contact out Patient Accounts
department on telephone 08 337 7200 (8.00 am – 5.00
pm) for an estimate of fees and charges prior to your admission
date. All estimates provided by North Eastern Community
Hospital are based on item numbers and length of stay as
indicated by your doctor prior to admission. Please note
that in the event of unforeseen complications or variations
from the proposed treatments, costs may vary.
Anaesthetic fees for maternity services
Should you require an epidural analgesia, a spinal or
general anaesthetic, the anaesthetist’s fees will
be calculated in accordance with the guidelines recommended
by the Australian Medical Association and the Australian
Society of Anaesthetists.
These fees may be substantially higher than the rebate
recommended by the Medicare Benefits Schedule. Factors
such as degree of difficulty, time of day, duration of
service, travel time and urgency are taken into account.
Fees will vary between practitioners but in most cases
will be at a level recognised by accepted community standards. |
