The arrival of your baby is one of the most memorable moments in your life and a very personal experience. We know how important the birth of your baby is and we will help guide you through the various stages of your pregnancy, childbirth and beyond. Here at the North Eastern Community Maternity Unit, we are committed to providing excellence in maternity care and we have been delivering babies for over 40 years.

Our maternity services have been developed to provide you with flexibility and choice, respecting you as an individual. North Eastern supports Vaginal Births After Caesarean (VBAC) and we recommend this be discussed with your treating Obstetrician during pregnancy. We are committed to the philosophy of family centred care and partners are welcome at all times in our maternity unit. We are also committed to welcoming women from other cultures and ensuring that your culture is respected and supported.

Our experienced and caring maternity staff are available 24 hours a day, to provide you with individualised postnatal care. We will be there to assist you with feeding or settling your baby, attending to your medical needs or to offer general parenting advice and support. We are committed to your comfort, care and peace of mind.

The hospital offers a comprehensive range of birthing and parenting programmes. These programmes include classes/sessions/clinics for

  • First-time parents;
  • Those with parenting experience but who would like an update;

Childbirth and Parenting Programme

North Eastern Community Hospital is committed to planning and providing a comprehensive childbirth and parenting programme. Classes are free of charge when you book your delivery at North Eastern Community Hospital. You may still attend these classes if you are not booked in at North Eastern Community Hospital but a small fee will apply.

The programme incorporates:

  • Late pregnancy classes
  • Saturday childbirth and parenting workshops

We also provide:

  • Antenatal breastfeeding classes
  • Refresher class for second-time parents

Hypnobirthing classes

While all parents are invited to attend Hospital Antenatal Classes, some parents may also like to attend Hypnobirthing classes as an additional method of preparing positively for childbirth.

Over the course of 4 weeks parents are informed about the natural birthing process.

Parents learn tools to use during pregnancy and birth which allow mum to achieve a deep state of relaxation.

Parents report after their birth that no matter what type of birth they had, hypnobirthing empowered them with knowledge to make informed choices.

Please see below certified hypnobirthing practitioners who work closely with our maternity department.
